DLHK Lombok Timur Encourages Cooperation with DPPM to Strengthen Mainstreaming of Adiwiyata in Schools

East Lombok, November 18, 2025 — The Capacity Development Division of the East Lombok Environment and Forestry Office (DLHK) held a Socialization event on Mainstreaming Adiwiyata in the School Curriculum. This activity is a step to strengthen collaboration with higher education institutions, specifically the Community Service and Development Center (DPPM), in developing environmentally-conscious schools. The event featured Prof. Dr. Khirjan Nahdi, M.Hum. as a resource person.

DLHK reaffirmed its commitment as the leading sector in developing movements related to the environment, ecosystems, climate change, and waste management through educational instruments. The Adiwiyata program is considered strategic for building a sustainable culture of environmental care in schools, thus requiring support from academic partners.

In his presentation, Prof. Khirjan emphasized several key points. First, environmental issues must become part of the substance of education. Students need to critically understand the dynamics of environmental issues by asking "why" and "how," and then implement this understanding in real-world behavior. Second, mainstreaming Adiwiyata in learning can be achieved through the diversification of material in basic competencies, subject matter, and lesson sub-materials. Third, environmental education requires a process of contextualization and habituation from an early age so that the values of environmental care are effectively internalized.

The event was attended by 71 participants, consisting of representatives of Principals from elementary schools (SD/MI) and junior high schools (SMP/MTs) throughout East Lombok. During the discussion session, many schools expressed interest in establishing partnerships to receive mentoring for Adiwiyata implementation. Several schools also proposed support for strengthening subject competencies in preparation for olympiads.

As a follow-up, the East Lombok DLHK proposed cooperation with DPPM and the Cooperation Unit to facilitate mentoring by lecturers and university students at schools/madrasahs. DPPM welcomed the proposal positively and will integrate it into the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma). This synergy is expected to strengthen the environmentally-conscious education ecosystem in East Lombok.
