KUPI and ALIMAT Collaborate with Hamzanwadi University to Hold Advocacy and Education on the Dangers of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) for Women.
Pancor, November 5, 2025 — Hamzanwadi University, through its Center for GEDSI Study and Development, in collaboration with ALIMAT and the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), organized an Advocacy and Socialization activity on the KUPI's Religious Attitudes and Views regarding the Protection of Women from Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (P2GP) that is harmful and without medical reasons. The event took place in the Meeting Room of the Hamzanwadi University Rectorate and was attended by academics, activists, female religious scholars (ulama), representatives of lecturers, Muslimat NWDI, Tuan Guru, students, and community organizations.
The Rector of Hamzanwadi University, Dr. Ir. Hj. Sitti Rohmi Djalilah, M.Pd, affirmed the university's commitment to strengthening GEDSI issues and the protection of women and vulnerable groups as a manifestation of Islam as *rahmatan lil 'alamin* (a mercy to all worlds). The Chairperson of ALIMAT, Dr. Iklilah Muzayyanah Dini Fajriyah, M.Si, emphasized the importance of a comprehensive understanding of P2GP, which is rooted in social, cultural, and religious contexts, and encouraged participants to become agents for disseminating this knowledge in society.
From KemenPPPA, Dian Ekawati, S.Sos., MIS, expressed her appreciation for this collaboration and reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting girls from P2GP practices, which have no medical or religious basis. The core activity featured resource persons such as Satyawanti Mashudi, who discussed the medical and ethical aspects of P2GP practices, as well as legal and cultural perspectives, and Prof. Dr. Atun Wardatun, M.Ag., M.A., Ph.D, who explained the KUPI Fatwa on Female Circumcision as a religious guide that upholds justice and public welfare.
Participants engaged in group discussions to formulate P2GP prevention strategies and follow-up plans. The event concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Hamzanwadi University, ALIMAT, and DPPM, as a concrete step to strengthen cooperation in advocating for the protection of women and children, as well as expanding the role of the university, female ulama, Muslimat NWDI, and students in raising public awareness.
