Strengthening Cooperation with Rinjani Geopark, Hamzanwadi University's Geopark Study Center Attends Rinjani-Tambora Geosite Development Workshop

Mataram, November 18, 2025 — Located at the Lombok Raya Hotel, Geopark Rinjani held a Workshop on the Development of the Rinjani-Tambora Geosite, attended by various stakeholders and policymakers. The event involved members of the Rinjani-Tambora Geopark, the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, the Energy and Mineral Resources Office (ESDM), Geopark Working and Support Groups (Kopja-Pokja), Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis), and academics from various universities, including the Geopark Study Center of Hamzanwadi University.

On this occasion, the General Manager of Geopark Rinjani, Qwadru P. Wicaksono, detailed the work programs currently and soon to be implemented by Geopark Rinjani. He stated that the Geopark's major agendas are targeted at strengthening its role while developing various geosites within the Rinjani area. He also emphasized that many cultural heritage sites remain untouched and unpublished, thus requiring the role and cooperation of all parties, including support from academic circles. Qwadru also reaffirmed the three main pillars of Geopark—Conservation, Education, and Sustainable Economy—as the foundation for collaboration with educational institutions, including Hamzanwadi University.

During the discussion session, the representative of Hamzanwadi University's DPPM Geopark Study Center, Dr. Ramli Akhmad, M.Pd, presented several strategic program recommendations. He affirmed that the Hamzanwadi Geopark Study Center is ready to strengthen cooperation in research and community service for the development of the Rinjani geosite. One area of focus highlighted was the potential of the Bale Adat Sembalun Bumbung to be developed into a Mini Museum, which would require support from the Geopark. Furthermore, in the educational aspect, Geopark Rinjani opened opportunities for an Intensive Internship cooperation for Hamzanwadi University students, particularly from the Tourism and Geography Education Study Programs.

In addition, Geopark Rinjani also expressed its readiness to expand research collaboration with Hamzanwadi University. Joint initiatives for creating journals and international seminars themed around Geopark and Tourism were considered highly potential. Geopark Rinjani even opened the door for the Hamzanwadi University team to hold further discussions to strengthen future collaboration.
