Hamzanwadi University Participates in KONEKSI Australia Indonesia's Focus Group Discussion on Gender Equality
Mataram, November 6, 2025 — Hamzanwadi University, through its Center for GEDSI Research and Development, participated in a Focus Group Discussion on Gender Equality organized by the Australia-Indonesia Knowledge and Innovation Partnership (KONEKSI) at Prime Hotel Mataram. This activity is part of the design phase for the Gender Equality Leadership Program, which aims to strengthen an inclusive and gender-equitable knowledge ecosystem in Indonesia.
The event was attended by various stakeholders, including academics, researchers, activists, health practitioners, architects, interfaith leaders, representatives from the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), and cultural observers. Representing Hamzanwadi University were Prof. Dr. Khirjan Nahdi, M.Hum, as a researcher in the field of gender; Desi Ariska, M.Psi, as Head of the Center for GEDSI Research and Development; and Baiq Desi Dwi Arianti, S.Kom., M.T., as a Member of the GEDSI Task Force. Each presented perspectives on research, support for victims of gender-based violence, and the results of an FGD in the education sector concerning gender literacy and policies on campus.
Prof. Khirjan Nahdi emphasized the importance of integrating cultural, social, and religious perspectives into the mainstream of gender equality. Meanwhile, Desi Ariska highlighted the role of educational institutions in supporting victims of violence to speak out and gain access to safe recovery channels. Baiq Desi Dwi Arianti pointed out that understanding of gender equality still varies and needs to be strengthened through literacy, policies, and an institutional culture responsive to GEDSI.
The involvement of Hamzanwadi University affirms the institution's commitment to strengthening campus governance with a GEDSI perspective, developing inclusive research and policies, and expanding national and international collaborative networks on gender equality issues. This activity is expected to be a crucial foundation for developing gender leadership and advocacy programs in Indonesia.
