Universitas Hasanuddin Explores Tourism and Cultural Research Collaboration with Unversitas Hamzanwadi
Pancor, December 8, 2025 — Universitas Hasanuddin, through its Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) and Center for Tourism and Cultural Studies, visited Hamzanwadi University to explore academic, research, and community service collaboration. The meeting, held in the Universitas Hamzanwadi, was attended by the leadership of Hamzanwadi University's DPPM, the cooperation division, UPPM, as well as representatives from the History and Tourism Study Programs of Hamzanwadi University. Also present were Dr. Ida Liana Tanjung, S.Pd., M.Hum., Head of the Center for Tourism and Cultural Studies at LPPM Hasanuddin University, and Dr. Ilham, S.S., M.Hum., as Vice Dean 1 of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Hasanuddin University.
In his welcoming remarks, the Director of DPPM at Hamzanwadi University expressed appreciation for the visit and hoped that this exploration would open opportunities for research collaboration, academic experience exchange, and scientific publications. He affirmed Hamzanwadi University's readiness to follow up on the proposed cooperation as a step toward university development and academic capacity enhancement.
During the presentation session, Dr. Ida Liana Tanjung highlighted Lombok's potential as a site for historical and biodiversity research, referring to documents from the Alfred Russel Wallace expedition that demonstrate Lombok's role in the Wallacea research route. Meanwhile, Dr. Ilham emphasized that Lombok holds great potential in developing culture-based tourism, wellness tourism, and halal tourism, while noting that Lombok's historical and cultural context still needs to be strengthened in tourism development.
The discussion yielded several proposed collaborations, such as lecturer exchanges to support study program accreditation, mapping of authentic tourism locations such as in Limbungan, Suela District, and collaboration in building a mini museum and developing the Old Town of Ampenan. The meeting concluded with a commitment from both institutions to proceed with drafting the technical aspects of the collaboration and formulating implementation steps for joint programs as a contribution to the development of cultural and tourism studies in Lombok.
