Universitas Hamzanwadi Strengthens Geopark Development through Collaboration with PPG UKM

Pancor, June 2, 2026 — Universitas Hamzanwadi participated in a discussion and presentation session with Prof. Noorhayati, Chair of the Geopark Research Centre (PPG) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), conducted virtually via Zoom on Wednesday (June 2). The session highlighted the role of geoparks as instruments for sustainable development, emphasizing not only geological conservation but also the integration of education, research, and community economic empowerment.

During the presentation, PPG UKM introduced the Sustainability Science for Geopark Development approach, underscoring the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Geoparks are positioned as living laboratories encompassing four main pillars: geological heritage, biodiversity, socio-cultural heritage, and environmental integrity. In this context, universities serve as knowledge hubs that bridge research, policy-making, and community needs.

Through this engagement, Universitas Hamzanwadi gained strategic insights into establishing a geopark research and development center, particularly in supporting the management of the Rinjani Geopark. This concept is expected to strengthen the university’s role in research, education, and community empowerment, while maintaining a balance between conservation, education, and local economic development.
